For the newest attraction at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Center, Blue Telescope created two exciting exhibits to showcase the history and technology of some of the greatest space exploration missions.

The Robotic Space Explorers Wall, a fully-interactive 30’ x 9’ experience, allows multiple users to simultaneously visualize and engage with the vast number of space probes exploring our solar system. Three touchscreen monitors offer a deeper dive into their history, and enable guests to launch a satellite from earth and watch it travel its course.

As guests launch the unmanned vehicles from one of the three 4K touch kiosks, they are able to follow each mission trajectory from earth through space. The experience invites collaborative interaction between guests as they interact with the spacecraft through body gestures on the 30 foot wall. Utilizing cutting edge motion tracking cameras, guests can use physical movements to “catch” spacecrafts on the wall to investigate their trajectories or reveal “easter eggs.” The hidden content provides unexpected surprise and delight though engaging animations ranging from historical content to pop culture references.

The RL10 Engine Interactive challenges users to combust hydrogen and oxygen at just the right moment to “launch” their rocket into space. Successful attempts activate a rocket thrust complete with LEDs and roaring audio. Supported by a full scale engine artifact built by the legendary rocket manufacturer Aerojet Rocketdyne, this experience emphasizes the complexities of rocket science and that “space exploration is hard.” Guests are challenged to ignite the rocket through three different mission scenarios including research, communication, and exploration. If successfully ignited, guests are rewarded by immersive audio to simulate a real engine and a stunning light display simulating the rocket flame.
