The best designs, whether graphic or architectural, are ones that delight and surprise the viewer.

Cite Studio is a dynamic architecture and landscape design firm run by husband-and-wife team Ann Wimsatt and David Williams.

Their previous website was clean and simple, but for a duo of renowned architects, it was time to make some noise. They needed a website that was sleek and sophisticated but also vibrant and intriguing.

As soon as a visitor lands on the website, they're greeted with stunning images from Cite Studio’s impressive portfolio. Text appears slowly, headlines are bold and oversized, and body type is small, creating juxtaposition and tension. The website features staggering elements throughout to break the visitor's expectation of uniformity.

But despite the website's apparent complexity, it’s still simple, user-friendly and easy to navigate. In line with the company’s own work, the website breaks conventions and expectations while keeping usability in mind.

To make the site even more personal and unique, page footers draw from a library of vibrant, colorful paintings created by Ann.
