Cutting-edge projection technology meets immersive art at the 2023 Taiwan Lantern Festival. After a 23-year hiatus, the "Taiwan Lantern Festival" returned to Taipei, showcasing a fusion of innovative technology with digital art. Optoma collaborated with AMUS Art Tech at the Light Up the Future display zone in the heart of Taipei’s bustling downtown Xinyi district to showcase their work titled Restart. With Optoma's advanced projection technology and intriguing artwork created by artist Can from AMUS Art Tech, the collaboration pushed the boundaries of art and delivered a memorable and immersive experience.
The Light Up the Future display zone allowed visitors to experience leading trends, culture, digital technologies, and the sustainability efforts of Taipei. To bring this project to life and deliver the wow effect to visitors, twelve high-brightness projectors were deployed inside a 52-sqm room surrounded by 4m by 8.25m walls, displaying a combined resolution of more than 24 million pixels. The Restart exhibit was created over a period of three months by seven artists and five engineers. Using advanced projection mapping, visitors were able to experience a seamless 360-degree immersive experience that tells the story of how the resilience of Taiwanese people helped them overcome the Covid-19 pandemic and found their way back to prosperity.
The exterior LED strips of the venue represented the mobile 5G live stream of the festival, and the hexagonal geometry of the façade represented home. This innovative concept, which combined art and technology through creative software and hardware integration, drew in approximately 14,000 people during the 15 days of the exhibition.
