Lucid Dreaming

With the annual Taiwan lantern festival cancelled for the first time due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the local Hsinchu lantern festival hosted by the Hsinchu Cultural Affairs Bureau was renamed, " 2021 Hsinchu Light Coming Festival,” held between October 6-16, 2021. The Lucid Dreaming exhibition was constructed in the Wind Livehouse in Hsinchu Park, where Optoma and AMUS Art Tech Studio used projection technology to create an interactive and immersive light and shadow artistic experience at the indoor venue.

Lucid Dreaming used a theatre scrim in the shape of a vortex for the projection display. Bionic sensor technology, using lines, particles, air, etc., created an immersive “City of Wind” experience for visitors. Visitors entered the core of the dream vortex and followed the sound of the wind to the destination, a mystic, shallow stone bowl for storing memories, also called a Dream Container, set in the center, representing the core of human subconsciousness. Above the Dream Container, a hanging dreamcatcher art was installed. The exhibition created three dream themes representing different states of our dreams: “Dancing Flowers and Butterflies,” symbolizing love and happiness, “A Thousand Rivers and a Hundred Fishes,” symbolizing wealth, and “Rising unhurriedly,” symbolizing hope and freedom. When the dream state changed, smoke came out from the dream container, then the dreamcatcher device above glowed and extended to the thought light ball on the ceiling in a luminous or discolored state. And whenever a breeze stirred in the dream container, the room would transform into a new dream through projection. The gently swirling breeze in the room surrounded visitors, while butterflies occasionally rested on them.
The exhibition was well received, with more than 11,000 visitors. Optoma looks forward to using more immersive projections to bring happiness to people.
