As a sequel to the Colossus Series of Flint Walk, a global pioneer in the glasses-free 3D displays, Sonder Moments was launched in the public space of the city center of Chengdu, China. The key objectives were to form a deep connection with the public by transferring the larger-than-life 3D figure from the billboard out to the crowd. The strong visual impact and unique concept behind the character design provided captivating and surreal visual experiences to the audience. The project garnered over 6 million impressions and sparked a great deal of discussions.
Since its inception, The Colossus I was perceived as symbolic narrative of technology, mysterious power, and future, thus how to further the image and symbolic meaning of the Colossus Series from The Colossus I naturally became the main task for the team.
Eventually, the team drew the inspiration from the post-pandemic syndrome, which is that people now are more focused on the inner life and pay more attention to emotional health and social relations. The inspiration was further extended to the storyline where the Colossus II looks down at the world from above after waking up and hist at the crowd, which serves as a visual embodiment of the spiritual awakening of the giant figure after going through all sorts of challenges and transformations. The message delivered here was to capture the beauty of the moment and to be alleviated from the tension caused by the pandemic. The goal of the display was to create emotional value through digital aesthetics.
This piece of artwork is a convergence of natural elements, digital aesthetics, and emotional power. It sculpted a colossus that travels to the mundane human world from another dimension and encounters with human beings on city streets, breathing into the world healing energy and drawing people closer to each other.
