Have you ever imagined of sitting next to Amadeus Mozart at his piano? Do you ever fantasize riding the lavish Glass Coach of the Dutch Royal family as if you were royalty yourself? Studio Louter and Tjep created an Augmented Reality tour for the Municipality of the Hague, the Netherlands, that brings historic figures of the city’s past to life.
The tour takes place at the Hague’s Museum Quarter. While passing the most memorable historic buildings, visitors discover brass plaques with inscribed QR codes. By simply scanning them with their phone cameras they are lead to the tour’s website. To make things easier, it is not required to download an application to participate in the tour. At the website, visitors unravel the stories of remarkable historic figures and their link to the tour’s cultural institutions. For, example, they can read a small explanatory text, listen to an one minute audio recording with fun facts or music fragment and even decide to take a selfie with the figures.
The tour’s aim is to ultimately inspire a visit to the cultural institutions of the Hague by connecting people to the past via an easy, yet unforgettably palpable way. The tour is a big success, at the moment we are working on more stops to add to the route.
