Our client, Capital One, came to The Garden Creative and asked us for an original back-to-school commercial video. The brief asked for us to position their Capital One Cafés as cozy, inviting spaces for students while showcasing all the Cafés had to offer from free Wi-Fi, ATMs, and a fabulous new coffee and food menu.
You could do all of this in the easy, tick-the-box way, but our goal was to dig deeper creatively and find a path that would appeal to the “back-to-school” demographic and call upon pop culture to catch people’s attention.
Pulled straight from a current TikTok trend, what could be better than an homage to Wes Anderson and his trademark brand of showing you everything, but with a twist? Sometimes it is quirky hand movements or a symphony of hand movements repeating a task. Or it could be a unique shot-from-the-top camera angle or an ethereal soundtrack, and you know you’ve entered a different world.
