Buying a home is a major life achievements for many Americans, one that comes with feelings such as elation and pride. However, the mortgage lender can often be seen as a necessary evil or sometimes even a barrier who doesn’t value or understand the role home plays in people’s lives. In order to combat this negative stereotype and to build stronger affinity with potential clients, Rocket Mortgage created the Home. Made. podcast.
This series, now on its 3rd season is a social documentary that explores the meaning of home and what it can teach us about ourselves and each other. The host, Stephanie Foo shares the true stories of real Americans and their idea of ‘home’ through interviews and narration. By presenting stories that entertain, engage, and inspire the primary goal of Home. Made. is to challenge what it means to be a mortgage lender and elevate our level of meaningfulness in the eyes of our clients.
From the outset, the goal of this podcast was not to encourage last-touch conversion but to help build brand affinity with an audience (Loyal Podcast Consumers) that might not be reached with the current marketing/advertising mix. No hard calls to action or long product mentions were included. Instead, meaningfulness was built through engagement and the emotional impact of the content.
The series has maintained an average audience retention rate of over 86% across three full seasons. This means that on average, a listener completes 86% of every episode downloaded. Apple Podcasts’ gold standard for retention is 80% and we are thrilled to be at that level. In fact, one of the episodes in season 3, “Love, Loss & Baking”, has a retention rate of 99%. Finally, to date the total episode downloads are more than 384,000 and going strong. This season also lives on YouTube through animated videos, and the season premiere episode, “Birwood Wall" garnered almost 680,000 views.
