As a prominent lifestyle brand deeply intertwined with the daily lives of Hong Kong people, Miramar Group pioneers a green living style and recognizes the paramount importance of sustainability, particularly in green shopping, green dining, and green living.
We are particularly aware that the fashion industry generates a significant amount of waste in Hong Kong each year. In 2023, through our green platform "Mi Go Green", we organized the "FASHION THE FUTURE Upcycling Fashion Design Competition" in collaboration with the School of Fashion and Textiles at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Artificial Intelligence Design Lab (AiDLab), and Redress. This competition aimed to drive sustainability in the fashion industry by encouraging designers to adopt sustainable materials and production techniques. Our goal was to reduce fashion design costs, minimize excessive sample development, and create new design channels and market opportunities.
To actively engage students and alumni, we extended invitations for their participation in the "Fashion the Future Upcycled Fashion Design Competition," resulting in ten exceptional finalists. Leveraging Redress' expertise, the competition utilized second-hand clothing and textile waste from their recycling activities, enabling designers to transform these materials into upcycled fashion creations. Additionally, through collaboration with AiDLab and their innovative AI fashion design assistant, AiDA, we facilitated the realization of imaginative designs into diverse and original works. This streamlined the fashion production process, reduced resource consumption, and showcased the integration of AI technology within fashion design.
The finale of the competition took place in a grand fashion show at Mira Place, where the ten finalists showcased their two sets of upcycled fashion creations. This event served as a platform for designers to share their creative concepts, emphasizing the incorporation of environmental elements into their designs. The audience was captivated by the exquisite craftsmanship and innovative reinterpretation of fashion pieces, showcasing the infinite possibilities of sustainable fashion. The top three winners were rewarded with generous cash prizes. The remarkable creations of the finalists, totaling 20 pieces, were exhibited at the Mira Place atrium, allowing the public to personally witness their transformative work.
