To enhance the inheritance and promotion of cultural heritage, this innovative conservation solution to cultural heritage takes VR hardware as the carrier to give cultural heritage a “digital life”. Through multi-dimensional interactive forms, it offers users an immersive cultural exploration experience.
Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, the world’s largest and oldest wooden pagoda, can no longer be visited for sightseeing due to its severely aged and damaged structures. To address this issue, this project uses cutting-edge spatial computing & AIGC (integrating AI, NeRF and XR) to create a permanent digital representation of the pagoda, transcending physical limitations. Users can explore the pagoda's appearance across different historical periods, ensuring the preservation of cultural heritage while broadening public access and awareness. Incorporating its rich historical context, the project creates a story-driven tour route featuring NPC (historical figures) navigation, perspective views matching those of historical figures, plot-triggering props, and simulations of earthquakes and impacts, contributing to a deeply immersive experience of virtual reality for visitors. To break the limitations of time and space, this project also offers online services besides offline exploration, so that visitors can enjoy the fun of exploration at all times and places.
Additionally, this project, by virtue of its digital surveying and mapping, not only allows conservators to analyze the pagoda’s construction under the view of ancient craftsmen, and clearly observe its ingenious mortise and tenon joints, but also creates visual digital archives to offer data support for cultural research, conservation, and restoration. Furthermore, it can be extended to more cultural heritage sites, providing a new protection solution for historical and cultural treasures.
