The Hagia Sophia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world’s most significant architectural masterpieces, symbolizes the fusion of Christian and Islamic cultures.Located in Istanbul, it offers a unique historical and cultural experience.
Visitors begin their journey with an immersive show that brings the 1700-year history of the Hagia Sophia to life.Spread across 3200 m² and 13 different halls, this 30-minute experience uses high-end technologies, revealing the Hagia Sophia’s rich past.
The museum tour is divided into three sections. The first focuses on the Byzantine period, showcasing the establishment of the Byzantine Empire and the construction of the Hagia Sophia.Visitors learn about key figures like Emperor Constantine, Theodosius, and Justinian, as well as the architectural marvels, including the iconic dome, that made the Hagia Sophia a wonder of its time. The period of iconoclasm and the Crusades’ impact are also explored through innovative visual displays.
The second section transports visitors to the Ottoman era, beginning with Mehmed the Conqueror, who transformed the Hagia Sophia into a cherished symbol of the empire. The contributions of successive sultans and the master architect Sinan are highlighted through stunning visual presentations. This section also delves into the artistic and architectural enhancements that have preserved the Hagia Sophia for centuries.
In the final exhibition hall, nearly 300 sacred artifacts, many on display for the first time, take the visitor through the Hagia Sophia’s history from its origins as a church and now a mosque.
After the mosque visit, now it’s time to see the Hagia Sophia itself with an iconic dome and many magnificant mosaics with new eyes. Augmented Reality technology enriches the mosque experience, allowing visitors to explore mosaic panels and hidden doors while listening to multilingual narrations that bring Hagia Sophia’s stories to life.
This immersive journey not only illuminates the HagiaSophia's monumental history but also underscores its enduring significance.A visit to the museum perfectly complements exploring the Hagia Sophia itself, connecting the past with the present.
The project involves 58 digital design artists, 4 stage design artists, 8 painters, 7 different composers, 8 musicians, 4 historical consultants and 4 art historians.
