A behind the scenes look at one of the latest multimedia installations crafted by Float4 for The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, a distinct luxury resort and casino. This project revitalized the iconic lobby’s eight towering digital columns, creating a visually captivating experience that aligns with the resort's playful brand and commitment to art.
The visual art piece presents an underwater fantasy, bringing four unique characters to life in a mesmerizing performance. The creative vision aimed to capture the elusive essence of The Cosmopolitan, where guests embrace a bolder version of themselves. The underwater theme acts as a visual metaphor, echoing the hidden depths and the joy of discovery that aligns with the hotel's brand.
A journey beneath the surface, both literal and figurative, from serenity to splendor.
The initial project phases focused on concept design to define the narrative, artistic direction, and production needs. Float4 orchestrated a live-action underwater shoot, managing everything from casting and costume design to coordinating multiple days on set with a specialized underwater film crew. Through a meticulous casting process, a synchronized swimmer, yoga instructor, and two dancers were chosen and underwent rigorous training. Once underwater, their performances revealed a remarkable vulnerability and authenticity, capturing the unique essence of each character.
Furthermore, Float4 took charge of all post-production tasks, including developing and compositing 3D animations, CGI, sound design, and conducting various on-site deployment tests. With over 60 talented individuals working on this project at different stages, we had to ensure every aspect of the project was impeccably delivered.
The final result was tailored and integrated across three key locations within the resort. In the lobby, the performers can be found swimming across the eight 16-foot digital columns, spanning over 350 high-resolution displays, and along the 75ft display above the registration counter. Meanwhile, atop the hotel, the Beacon illuminates the Las Vegas skyline with two 65-foot displays, further contributing to the grandeur of The Cosmopolitan's visual landscape.
