Despite being one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world, The Princess Margaret is not known for its research and breakthroughs. Introducing “The Future of Cancer Breakthroughs”, a campaign that highlights the power of breakthroughs at The Princess Margaret by showing how the research we do today saves lives tomorrow.
This campaign shows potential donors that every donation can have a ripple effect and become life-saving cancer research. The campaign takes incredible cancer innovations and discoveries made at The Princess Margaret and connects them to the life-changing results they’ve made possible.
To demonstrate the power and effectiveness of our groundbreaking research, we featured patients who are alive today because of it. We asked cancer survivors to write letters to their former selves at the time of diagnosis.
One of the featured survivors, Luana Locke, has a rare genetic disorder that comes with an almost 100% chance of developing cancer multiples times throughout her life. Thanks to The Princess Margaret’s early detection program, she has survived cancer six times since her first diagnosis. Another featured survivor, Kara Thornhill, was given a terminal diagnosis with a five-year survival rate of less than 10%. Thanks to an experimental protocol developed by the team at The Princess Margaret, today, seven years later, she is living cancer free.
The Future of Cancer Breakthroughs campaign successfully conveyed the critical role that research at The Princess Margaret plays in saving lives. By connecting potential donors to the personal stories of survivors and showcasing the direct impact of their donations, the campaign not only raised vital funds but also strengthened the institution’s standing as a global leader in cancer research and innovation.
