Obama.org serves as the digital home of the Obama Foundation – an organization with an ambitious and meaningful mission to inspire, empower, and connect people to change their world. As the Obama Presidential Center – opening in Chicago in 2026– nears completion, the Foundation is entering a new era as a cultural institution with a physical home.
Last year, the Foundation began reevaluating their digital platforms in anticipation of this brand evolution taking shape. As this exciting new era begins, this launch speaks to the transformative, impactful role that a digital hub can play in bringing an organization to life and shaping how visitors interact with the Foundation both digitally and physically in the future.
Work & Co designed, developed, and launched the new Obama.org, in partnership with the Obama Foundation’s Creative Team, focusing on a moment two years into the future, once the Center opens to create a framework that unifies the Foundation’s programs and the Presidential Center, and supports content and use cases across programs, exhibitions, events, ticketing, and visit planning.
We designed the detailed component system and templates, and developed the front-end application for the initial relaunch, to showcase the new visual brand, which was supported by branding firm Manual. New, reusable components on top of the existing Svelte and Tailwind UI library, integrated with their Contentful environment, take advantage of years’ worth of content.
Through boldly redesigned new content features, future leaders and changemakers supported by the Foundation can share their work and encourage others with how-to guides.
Since the initial relaunch of obama.org, the site has seen growth in users, engagement, and conversion compared to the same period last year – results that speak to the new site’s impact in furthering the organization's mission of reaching and empowering the next generation of changemakers.
