This is an American college textbook on Anthropology. My inspiration came from a photograph of an ape in the book, specifically its furry leg. l redrew it and combined it with the leg of a modern human. The graphic looks like a person walking, blending the ancient with the modern. lt also resembles the first letter of the word "Anthropology "A" as well as the first character of the Chinese word for "Anthropology"人." This simple and creative graphic conveys the moral of the book, not only the physical form of the leap, but also the human cognitive and cultural development of their own leap.
The cover design is based on the following key aspects:
1.Cultural Significance of “A” and “人” (Human): The first letter of “Anthropology” is “A,” while the first Chinese character for “human” is “人.” The design merges these elements by depicting the leg of an ape and the leg of a modern human, symbolizing the act of walking.This design form of interactive graphics and text not only represents human evolution and the dual East-West dimensions, but also hints at the fusion of global cultures.
2.Symbolic Leap: The concept of a “leap” is emphasized, representing not only physical evolution but also humanity's leap in self-awareness and cultural development, marking the transition from primitive to modern.
3.Balance Between Visual Memory and Professionalism: The minimalist design enhances visual memory, allowing quick recognition on a bookshelf, while also reflecting the professionalism and authority of an academic textbook.
