The exhibits at the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum compellingly portray the struggles faced by vessels and mariners off the North Carolina coast. Visitors are transported into the heart of maritime history through a harmonious integration of scale, environmental graphics, and sound.
Immersive displays, including larger-than-life depictions, ignite a sense of adventure and discovery, inviting visitors to delve into tales of courage and resilience inherent in the region's maritime legacy. An original 26-foot surfboat is dynamically displayed on an abstract waveform that authentically recreates the tumultuous seas where historic battles and daring rescues unfolded. Stories of underwater archaeology are interpreted under the waveform, while lifesaving stories are displayed in front of the waveform.
Centrally located within a ship's hold, a 14-foot-long digital map table allows visitors to explore the thousands of wrecks off the coast of North Carolina.
Interactive elements not only engage guests but also empower them with knowledge about North Carolina's maritime past, from ancient artifacts to cutting-edge technologies that have shaped navigation and lifesaving efforts. Hands-on exhibits provide valuable insights into the advancement of navigation technologies, highlighting North Carolina's pivotal role in advancing maritime science.
With meticulous attention to design, these exhibits optimize space for maximum visual impact and visitor engagement. At the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, the past is vividly brought to life, fostering a renewed appreciation for human resilience in the face of the sea's unforgiving nature.
