About The Entry

The Guy V. Lewis Development Center at the University of Houston has undergone an impressive transformation, redefining its physical spaces and enhancing the experiences they provide. DLR Group’s thoughtful design integrates modernized and refreshed amenities, creating an environment tailored to the unique needs of student-athletes while embodying their championship aspirations. The project’s primary objective was to craft a space that resonates with current athletes and attracts top recruits, all while underscoring the institution's unwavering commitment to success. This vision is skillfully realized, with the integration of the Air Jordan brand throughout the facility serving as a bold symbol of excellence, exclusivity, and dedication—values that perfectly align with the culture of grit and hard work at the heart of the program.
The renovation of the Guy V. Lewis Development Center reimagined its spaces to reflect the Athletic Department’s evolving identity and goals. The project focused on enhancing the men’s and women’s basketball team areas, with a comprehensive refresh of the team level. New locker room suites were designed to meet the needs of today’s student-athletes, while key concepts like nutrition and wellness were thoughtfully integrated through dedicated rest and recovery spaces. To inspire recruits, trophy and memorabilia displays were added to the coaching suites, showcasing the program’s legacy. The design seamlessly blends the cultural identity of the basketball programs with the Air Jordan brand, creating a cohesive and immersive experience. A commitment to equality is evident throughout the project, with equal facilities provided for both men’s and women’s teams.
