Bright Pathway is a gamified design aimed at addressing the challenges faced by some ex-offenders, such as weakened social ties and a lack of guidance for reintegration, often caused by long incarceration periods. The game seeks to simulate real-life scenarios to guide ex-offenders in adapting to society and help them reintegrate into normal life. We studied relevant cases and data on ex-offenders re-entering society, identifying key issues they face, including difficulty adapting to modern society, employment challenges, and societal prejudice. Bright Pathway is divided into two parts: the early and later stages of post-incarceration life. It realistically depicts the reintegration process, where ex-offenders actively participate in tasks such as finding accommodation and seeking employment. The
game features a task system that advances the storyline as players complete objectives. Animal characters are used to represent ex-offenders, landlords, employers, passersby, and others. The scenes, including prisons, bus stops, hospitals, and rental apartments,
create an immersive and authentic atmosphere. Through this gamified approach, Bright Pathway not only helps ex-offenders enhance
their ability to adapt to society but also provides a platform for the public to better understand their experiences. We hope this design will encourage more awareness of the challenges of social reintegration for ex-offenders and foster a more open and compassionate society.
