Hika Rakuyo at Vivid Sydney 2024

Concept
Hika Rakuyo is a Japanese Zen art concept that uses flowers and falling leaves as a metaphor for the transient beauty of life. Hika Rakuyo is a reminder of the beauty of flowers, their fragility and the crucial role they play in our ecosystem. It is an awe-inspiring reminder of our own transience and connection to the natural world.

Event details
Reflective dark water, brilliant lasers and video projections, Japanese philosophy – Cockle Bay in a new light. This spectacular artwork is a celebration of Hika Rakuyo, a Japanese concept that uses flowers and falling leaves as a metaphor for the transient beauty of life. Told through a holographic light and laser show, admire the story of native Australian flowers blooming across the dark water of the bay. It was an eight-minute spectacular that was on repeat from 6:00 pm, with the final show at approximately 11:00 pm, during the all-festival period (23 May - 14 June 2024).

Preparation
It was our first installation in collaboration with artists from Eternal Art Space. After a successful projection at the Noor Riyadh 2022 art festival, they chose to work with us again. This project also marked our first installation in Australia.
One of the significant challenges we faced was ensuring the timely delivery of our technology from Europe and arranging all the necessary permits. Additionally, securing the required technical documentation—such as design, drawings, specifications, timetables, visas, accommodation, and flights—proved to be difficult.
Due to the distance and higher costs, only three people from our company participated in this project: a project manager and two show operators. Each of them also took on the responsibilities of a technician.
The projection was achieved using a water screen shield, onto which video content was displayed through video projection and lasers. The lasers added extra effects, while the reflections on the water's surface enhanced the overall experience.
