1. Overall Theme: Aging, Death, Separation, Farewell
This packaging is centered on the themes of “Aging, Death, Separation, and Farewell,” representing four inevitable emotions and experiences in life. These universal themes offer deep reflections on the past, present, and future. Through the design of the incense holders and packaging, we aim to embody these concepts, inviting users to reflect in a serene atmosphere and experience the flow and impermanence of life.
• Aging: Symbolizes the marks of time and the accumulation of life, paying tribute to the past.
• Death: Not an end, but an opportunity for transformation and rebirth.
• Separation: Represents life’s partings, reminding us to cherish the present.
• Farewell: A choice and a goodbye, marking growth and renewal.
2. Cultural Implications of Packaging Design
• Drawer-Style Box and Hollow Design:
The drawer-style box symbolizes “opening memories, entering stories,” with each pull resembling turning a page. The hollow design, shaped by the contours of each incense holder, highlights its uniqueness and showcases beauty from different perspectives, reflecting life’s multifaceted nature.
• Woodgrain Paper and Song Dynasty-Inspired Pull Ring:
The woodgrain-textured paper conveys warmth and authenticity, symbolizing life’s simplicity. The pull ring, inspired by Song Dynasty wooden drawers, creates a visual 3D effect, echoing the elegance of ancient craftsmanship.
• Golden Text and Brand Name:
The gold text symbolizes eternity and solemnity, while the brand name “Narrative of Narratives” underscores the design’s concept of visually telling stories that carry emotions and memories.
3. Ink Painting Design and Meaning
• Selection and Application:
Black-and-white contrasts in ink paintings reflect life’s dualities (life and death, union and separation). Each painting aligns with a theme: “Aging” with withered leaves, “Death” with falling flowers, “Separation” with the moon, and “Farewell” with boats. The hollowed design offers glimpses of the paintings, while opening the box fully reveals them, symbolizing a deeper exploration of life’s themes.
4. Central Yin-Yang Symbol Design
The yin-yang symbol at the center splits as the box opens, symbolizing the unity of opposites. It reflects the philosophy that “Aging, Death, Separation, and Farewell,” though painful, nurture growth and hope.
