At Enerjisa Enerji, volunteer working groups were formed under the “Sensiz Olmaz” Platform to bring diverse perspectives and skills into Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives. One of these, the “Not Without People Challenging Disabilities” group, made the interactive Energy Tunnel at Enerjisa’s Ankara Söğütözü Customer Service Center accessible to visually impaired individuals through an unconventional technological solution.
Grounded in diversity, equity, and inclusion principles, the project aimed to support the equal participation of persons with disabilities in social and economic life, increase physical and digital accessibility, and raise corporate awareness. The volunteers partnered with WeWALK’s DANIŞ technology solution.
The Energy Tunnel is an interactive museum that showcases the transformation of energy and promotes sustainability awareness. Realizing that visually impaired visitors could not fully experience it independently due to its visual content, the team explored various technology providers, selecting DANIŞ as the most suitable. The WeWALK team joined the process, and field tests with two university students and one middle-aged participant informed improvements.
For the first time in Türkiye, visually impaired individuals could independently and freely access an interactive museum, engaging with content on energy, efficiency, and sustainability. Volunteers adapted the content into accessible formats, prepared route maps, and developed description standards. With DANIŞ, visitors could navigate from the metro to the museum, move within the venue, use kiosks and interactive areas, and receive audio descriptions via digitally connected agents.
Shaped by the belief that disability arises from societal barriers rather than physical limitations, the project prioritized freedom over assistance. Enerjisa volunteers actively contributed at every stage, framing accessibility as a corporate value, not just a technical fix.
The project launched at a major event attended by civil society, academia, and private sector representatives, featuring a panel, an experience tour, and expert contributions. After launch, the first user calls brought 100% positive feedback. Positioned as a pioneering example of accessibility in Türkiye’s private sector, the initiative merged technology and volunteerism to enhance the independent mobility of visually impaired people—transforming not only a physical space but also the corporate approach to accessibility.
