In this series, I worked with gouache on canvas in a 40 x 50 cm format, depicting three pillows in distinct forms and styles. The first is a pillow pressed beneath a heavy stone, symbolizing the overwhelming pressures of contemporary society, as immovable as a boulder. The second is patterned in the style of traditional patchwork fabrics, representing the weight and restrictions imposed by family. The third takes on a surreal quality: a transparent pillow resembling a fish tank, containing confined goldfish, a metaphor for the invisible constraints and norms of society.
During the creative process, I drew inspiration from works such as The Little Prince, which intertwine fantasy and reality. By transforming the everyday softness and form of the pillow into symbolic imagery, I developed a unique visual language. In presentation, I placed the pillow paintings within outdoor environments and took photos, arranging them as one might casually stack pillows at home. This gesture extends the domestic object into public space, hinting at broader social issues embedded within the intimate symbol of the pillow.
