About The Entry

Located in Midtown Manhattan near the vibrant K-Town district, Mt. ShooTao is a 1,442 sq ft contemporary hotpot restaurant that reinterprets Sichuan’s mountainous landscapes and traditional Chinese architecture through a modern design language. The project merges classical craftsmanship with the rhythm of urban dining, creating an immersive cultural journey within a compact footprint.
The spatial narrative unfolds as a symbolic mountain climb, guiding guests toward a pavilion-like peak with panoramic views. A palette of cinnabar red, natural wood, and woven rattan—balanced with matte black—bridges traditional warmth and modern sophistication. Custom wooden lattice screens divide intimate booths and communal tables, while pagoda-roof pendant lights reinterpret traditional eaves. Above, suspended red ridges recall ancient rooflines, extending visual height while enhancing intimacy and social connection.
Along one wall, a translucent DuPont paper mural of Sichuan palatial architecture casts a golden glow. Warm pools of light highlight the ritual of hotpot dining, while concealed illumination emphasizes textures and details. The project balances cultural depth with operational efficiency, allowing traditional aesthetics to transcend nostalgia and resonate with contemporary vitality.
