In August, 2025, CGTN Europe held an event entitled Echoes of Peace, at the Bluecoat Gallery in Liverpool, to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII. A panel of world experts gathered to discuss the role of China in the war, and how the lessons of cooperation learned 80 years ago inform 21st Century geopolitics. As well as various panel discussions, there were several keynote speeches and the launch of a documentary, Witness to War — the story of George Hogg, a British journalist and teacher who spent the war in China, detailing first hand the suffering of the Chinese people.
The event branding was created in a war-poster collage style and the Bluecoat Gallery, with its raw concrete walls, served as a blank canvas, well suited to image projection. Several montages were displayed in a loop, created from images of the Sino-Japanese War, newspaper clippings, and various bits of ephemera. The goal was to create an intimate environment, evoking the spirit of the Chinese war effort.
Furthermore, we created a two-minute explainer in a unified branding style, about the role of China in WWII, highlighting important historical milestones, as well as a short video sting, which was used as a transition between segments.
Finally, we were able to source some original archive material of George Hogg (both in photographic and typed document format), which we printed and displayed in a specially designed folio box. This box was presented in a ceremony, which marked the closing of the event.
