STORK reimagines how oncology researchers interact with one of the most complex and fragmented data ecosystems in science. The platform unifies pre-clinical, clinical, and external datasets into a single, human-centered environment that transforms scientific complexity into clarity and insight.
Before STORK, researchers struggled to locate and validate critical data across multiple systems, spending hours reconciling formats and verifying sources. The design challenge was extraordinary—translating biomedical data into an interface that is both intuitive and scientifically precise. It required bridging disciplines rarely connected in design: oncology research, data science, and enterprise information architecture.
Through extensive field research, participatory workshops, and iterative prototyping, the design team mapped how scientists think—moving from hypothesis to validation through visual reasoning. The resulting system mirrors that process through a series of specialized tools: a Filter Panel for exploration, Heat Map View for pattern recognition, Network View for relational discovery, and Comparison View for side-by-side analysis. Each component was crafted as a cognitive instrument that supports the researcher’s decision-making journey.
This was a rare design challenge where usability and accuracy carried equal weight. Every visual, interaction, and data rule had to preserve scientific rigor while reducing cognitive friction. The project demanded not only interface design but also the creation of a new shared data taxonomy to align different research teams under one language of discovery.
The result is a mission-critical platform that makes vast, technical information accessible, trustworthy, and inspiring. It improved collaboration, reduced data preparation time by 40%, and became a model for how human-centered design can drive progress in scientific innovation. STORK demonstrates that even in the most specialized and high-stakes contexts, thoughtful design can illuminate complexity and bring humanity to the pursuit of knowledge.
