About The Entry
In America, the overdose crisis doesn’t begin in the streets. It begins at home inside the medicine cabinet. Gen Z isn’t getting pills from dealers; they’re finding them in familiar bottles, often within their own homes. One in four teens admit to taking medication that wasn’t prescribed to them. The pills have changed stronger, riskier, more accessible. But the bottle hasn’t changed in over 50 years. That’s where the real danger began.
PillSafe is a concept-driven redesign of the prescription bottle built to prevent teen misuse before it starts. It only opens with a fingerprint ID. If someone else tries, the owner is instantly alerted. It tracks pill counts, and connects with pharmacies through a MicroBar system to monitor refills and prevent overuse.
Our approach was driven by concept, not just execution. From the start, we designed with intention focusing on how form, interaction, and behavior could work together to prevent access and spark awareness. Every detail served the idea. The shape was designed to feel familiar but impossible to ignore. The grip, accessible across ages. Even the color was carefully considered to feel native to Gen Z while signaling caution without fear or stigma. Familiar enough to belong. Distinct enough to disrupt. This isn’t just a smart bottle. It’s a shift in how we see safety at home. A silent object, now speaking up. One that turns routine into awareness. Prevention into design.
The overdose crisis isn’t just a health issue. It’s a design issue. And now, it can start a conversation we haven’t had in over 50 years.
