Reversed Meditation

Reversed Meditation is a solo exhibition selected through the annual open call of the People’s Gallery at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC), Thailand, and presented in April 2025. The project examines how viewing shifts from a single frontal encounter into a layered spatial experience shaped by distance, movement, and repetition in response to both material logic and spatial conditions. The exhibition consists of textile works structured for dual-sided perception. Black felt surfaces are threaded and transformed into white felt, photographed, and subsequently printed onto translucent gauze, where linear graphic elements are introduced. Through this iterative process of material translation and reconfiguration, images circulate across opaque and transparent layers, forming a visual system that resists a fixed viewpoint. Installed within the compact yet high-traffic corridor of the People’s Gallery, the exhibition operates at multiple distances. From afar, it appears as a unified window-like composition; at close range, visitors move between suspended textile layers and encounter reverse surfaces that reveal the work’s initial black felt structures. Human-shaped structures are incorporated to interrupt sightlines and encourage positional shifts. Through these material and spatial strategies, Reversed Meditation reframes viewing as an embodied and temporal process, where spatial experience emerges from material complexity rather than imposed display design.
