About The Entry

Meraki Communications Group is a boutique communications agency based in the Washington, DC metropolitan area that helps mission-driven organizations navigate complex issues, engage communities authentically, and turn powerful stories into meaningful action.
Its team of communications, marketing, and public affairs professionals specializes in culturally competent communications strategies that elevate underrepresented voices and help organizations build trust, credibility, and lasting impact.
Our work with the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund, a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, exemplifies this approach. The Action Fund is dedicated to preserving places that tell the full story of American history, particularly sites connected to African American achievement, resilience, and activism.
Meraki partnered with the Action Fund to develop narrative strategies, media relations campaigns, thought leadership opportunities, and storytelling initiatives that expanded awareness of its mission and elevated its national profile. Our work helped shape public conversations around culturally significant preservation efforts, including the Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley National Monument, while ensuring historically sensitive stories were communicated with accuracy, dignity, and respect.
Through sustained communications support, Meraki secured national media coverage in outlets including Newsweek, Grist, and numerous regional and national publications, positioning the Action Fund as a leading voice at the intersection of preservation, history, equity, and community investment.
This increased visibility contributed to significant philanthropic momentum, including major investments from leading foundations and a transformative $40 million gift from MacKenzie Scott in 2025. Today, the Action Fund has raised nearly $200 million and supported more than 378 preservation projects nationwide.
For Meraki, success is measured not only by media impressions or fundraising milestones, but by its ability to help organizations tell stories that are truthful, community-centered, and capable of driving lasting change.
