About The Entry

Conceived as a retirement estate, Lucknow (today’s Castle in the Clouds) was once the home of millionaire shoe manufacturer, Thomas G. Plant.
This exhibit examines Plant’s manufacturing career, from his meteoric rise and the innovative production strategies that made his fortune to the shoe machinery war that eventually ended his career.
The non-profit Castle Preservation Society (CPS) manages Lucknow’s historic buildings and grounds. It's mission is to preserve, interpret and share the buildings and landscape of the Castle in the Clouds as a cultural resource for the benefit of the public. in 2018, the property was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
There are 18 panels, each 30" wide x 40" tall, which hang in the small gallery, accompanied by artifacts from this historical period.
