Ultimately, creativity is the driving force behind turning ideas into reality and shaping the world around us in unexpected and impactful ways.

5 To you, what makes a “creative” idea and/or design?

A "creative" idea or design is characterized by its ability to either introduce a completely novel concept or cleverly combine and reinterpret existing elements in a fresh and innovative way. It transcends conventional thinking by offering new solutions, perspectives, or expressions that captivate and inspire. Whether it's a groundbreaking invention or a unique artistic interpretation, a creative idea or design pushes boundaries and challenges the status quo, leaving a lasting impact on its audience.

6 Tell us about your creative and/or design process.

When embarking on a design project, my process is systematic and collaborative. I begin by initiating meetings with all stakeholders to understand their needs, expectations, and requirements, ensuring alignment with project goals. Moving into the research phase, I employ various methods to gather insights, from understanding the needs of the target audience to analyzing competitors and design trends. This comprehensive research informs the crafting of design solutions, where I provide multiple options to cater to diverse stakeholder perspectives, ensuring a holistic approach to the project.

My favorite part of the creative process is researching to understand the problems of stakeholders or clients, especially when delving into a new industry. 9 Do you think your country and its cultural heritage has an impact on your creativity process?

Absolutely. Growing up in a culture rich in artistic heritage, I was deeply influenced by Chinese art's unique approach to depicting emotions through artwork. From a young age, I immersed myself in Chinese calligraphy, where I learned that it is not just about practicing and copying visually appealing styles, but about injecting one's soul into strokes to convey feelings. This philosophy has profoundly influenced my creative process, inspiring me to empathize with users and imbue design elements with emotion to create truly impactful experiences.

The biggest challenge with this project was gathering feedback from actual users. Since the product was new and had a relatively small user base, obtaining in-depth feedback proved difficult. Winning an award has significantly advanced my practice and career by validating my skills and expertise within the industry. Overall, winning an award has raised my standing in the industry and paved the way for new opportunities for growth and development.

14 What are your top three (3) favorite things about our industry?

My top three favorite things about our industry are the inherent creativity it offers, the widespread demand for our skills across various sectors, and the sense of community fostered by industry events and collaborations. First, I appreciate the opportunity to engage in creative problem solving and innovation, which ensures that no two projects are the same and prevents stagnation. Secondly, the universal need for design expertise means that our skills are valued and applied in diverse fields, offering exciting opportunities for growth and exploration. Finally, the sense of belonging within the design community, fostered by events and collaborations, creates a supportive environment for learning, networking, and sharing ideas.

15 What makes your country specifically, unique in the creative industry?

China's unique position in the creative industry stems from its vast small commodity market and rich cultural design heritage. Unlike many other countries, China boasts a thriving market for small commodities, offering a wide array of affordable yet creatively designed products that cater to diverse consumer preferences. Moreover, Chinese designers often prioritize the emotional and narrative aspects of their creations, paying significant attention to the stories behind the products. This emphasis on emotional resonance adds depth and meaning to Chinese design, setting it apart and making it uniquely appealing in the global creative landscape.

16 Where do you see the evolution of creative industry going over the next 5-10 years?

In the next 5-10 years, I envision the creative industry undergoing a significant transformation with the integration of AI technology. While this shift may present challenges, such as increased competition and the need to adapt to new tools, I believe it is unlikely to replace the unique capabilities of artists and designers. As a creative myself, I see AI as a valuable tool that will enhance rather than replace human creativity. Our ability to think outside the box, tailor solutions, and infuse projects with emotion will remain critical to delivering truly impactful and meaningful work.

17 If you were a student entering this industry or an aspiring MUSE Creative Awards submitter, what advice would you give them?

My advice would be to embrace technology as a tool for innovation and efficiency. Develop your skills in integrating new technologies into your creative process, as this will be increasingly important in staying competitive and relevant in the industry. Remember, though, that creativity is not just about technical proficiency; it's also about emotion and storytelling. Focus on delivering projects that resonate emotionally with your audience, rather than relying solely on technical skills. Ultimately, it's the ability to connect with people on a deeper level that will set your work apart and make it truly memorable.

18 What resources would you recommend to someone who wants to improve their skills in the creative industry?

I highly recommend attending industry events such as Adobe Summit and Figma Config. These events offer invaluable opportunities to learn from experts, discover new tools and techniques, and network with fellow creatives. Regular practice is also essential for skill development. Dedicate time to experimenting with different projects, pushing your creative boundaries, and refining your techniques.

19 Tell us something you have never told anyone else.

One dream I've never shared with anyone else is my desire to own a coffee shop with a serene backyard garden. Besides serving delicious coffee, I envision hosting after-hours workshops in the peaceful garden space, offering activities such as calligraphy, book reading sessions, ikebana flower arrangement, yoga, etc. It's a personal aspiration that combines my love for creating welcoming spaces, fostering community connections, and facilitating opportunities for personal growth and relaxation.

20 Who has inspired you in your life and why?

Hayao Miyazaki has been a profound inspiration in my life. His boundless imagination, coupled with his unwavering perseverance and dedication to exploration, deeply resonates with me. I am captivated by the emotional depth of his work and his ability to draw inspiration from the mundane aspects of everyday life. Miyazaki's philosophy of living with the wonder and curiosity of a child, coupled with his unyielding passion for storytelling, serves as a constant reminder for me to embrace the beauty of the world and approach life with creativity and enthusiasm.

21 What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?

For me, the key to success is passion. I believe that genuine interest serves as the best teacher, guiding us towards our true calling. The question then becomes: What am I passionate about? With passion comes motivation for initiative and perseverance, driving us to overcome challenges and relentlessly pursue our goals. My parting words of wisdom would be to listen to your heart, follow your passions with unwavering determination, and never underestimate the power of perseverance in achieving your dreams.
