The Vodacom Super Rugby Season for 2020 saw the tournament partner with Marvel to give the tournament a super hero feel and to celebrate the rugby players who display superhuman feats on the field. The four South African teams took on alter egos for the season with the Vodacom Bulls being inspired by Captain America, the DHL Stormers identifying with Thor, the Cell C Sharks representing Black Panther and the Emirates Lions showcasing Spider-Man.
Openfield and Fixer identified prominent players from each of the four teams and produced animated images and moving GIFS to enhance rugby fans' experience of the tournament on social media.
The use of the animations saw spikes in social media engagement and overall interest in the Vodacom Super Rugby tournament.
