“Eye Level” takes the original meaning of the term as used in linear perspective drawing, and assigns it different definitions from a visual design perspective. The use of parallel lines, vertical lines, vanishing points, and picture plane are used to show the same object and location from a different angle and mindset, creating new perspectives, new ways of thinking and new ways of looking at the same thing. Left, right, up, down, front, back, far, near, deep, and shallow―different viewpoints lead to different interpretations, changing our perception of the objects.
Two people from different times and spaces came together by chance to become teacher and student. Both share a passion for visual design and strive to constantly improve themselves. As seen in their “Eye Level” exhibit, what used to be parallel axes have come together, converging beyond the horizon line and redefining perspective. In late fall and early winter, the first exhibit for the pair uses “Eye Level” as its main axis. Their impressive work over time boldly experiments with many aspects of perspective in an impressive return to the original spirit of design.
