Gimli International Film Festival (GIFF) is a longstanding festival entering its 23rd year. It has become one of Manitoba, Canada’s premiere festivals and a draw for tourists and film fans from across Canada and abroad.
GIFF has proven it’s a growing, adaptable and respected festival. For 2022, they decided positioning as an international festival was both earned and imperative for future growth – going from Gimli Film Festival to Gimli International Film Festival. The new name and positioning called for a new look and a new logo.
The challenge was to bring this new, international sophistication to the brand while retaining the common themes of the festival that make GIFF unique: beach life, nature and summertime.
Argyle worked closely with the festival’s marketing board to come up with a simple, elegant logo and visual identity to match their new “international” status.
We created a simple logo featuring a pelican in a circle. The pelican is both connected to the region’s natural landscape and the beach life found in the area. The circle has multiple visual meanings: it represents the sun rising on a new horizon for the festival, the summertime, nature feel of the fest, and a spotlight – calling back to the film industry.
The new logo acknowledges the growth, uniqueness and scope of the festival, supporting GIFF’s mission to solidify itself as a premiere attraction in Manitoba, and Canada.
To launch the new logo and corporate identity, a simple, elegant and nature inspired look and feel made up the visual theme of the 2022 festival, keeping the spotlight on the new logo.
