The 2021 Light Coming lantern festival was held from October 22 to 31, 2021 in Hsinchu, Taiwan. Hsinchu, a cultural and technological city, employed light sculptures, music, and art to transform the city's historic sites into outdoor artworks. Artists from around the world were invited to participate, and an urban lantern show was jointly presented. Optoma presented something unique and special that combined cutting-edge technology and artistry to attract visitors. The immersive 5G mobile projection vehicles were built within 6 months by the Optoma New Media Integration team. The vehicles allowed visitors to follow projections during the festival to explore the streets of Hsinchu and experience different levels of interactive content and performances. Optoma had to overcome technical challenges and vehicle considerations to enable the projectors to move freely and mingle with spectators.

Optoma led the project and collaborated with AMUS Art Tech, an award-winning digital art team. Combined with Chunghwa Telecom's 5G technology, Optoma created innovative projection vehicles called – "5G Mobile Projection Vehicles." The three wirelessly connected vehicles were created to reinvent traditional projection and re-interpreted the user experience. Various Taiwanese artists and creators were also invited to participate. Bluetooth was used to control and operate the 5G projection vehicles so that the projected images could be smoothly displayed in streets and alleys. The vehicles were also equipped with built-in batteries, audio speakers, playback system, and networking equipment.

The 5G projection vehicles breathed new life into Hsinchu and brought people together through interactive games and a projected display of Hsinchu’s local delicacies. With a futuristic design and interactive projection, the 5G mobile projection vehicle entertained over 3 million visitors during the lantern festival.
