The Backwoods brand team enlisted Matrix MKTG to design and develop an impactful activation footprint for one of the most exciting festivals in the United States, Rolling Loud California 2023. Backwoods had to come to life in a way that demonstrated how it connects to its loyal consumers every day in a memorable space on this national stage. To up the challenge even more, the activation footprint was in the artist compound to which only celebrities and musical talent performing at the festival had access.

We wanted to connect to Los Angeles by building a space that would truly resonate with artists and their guests as well as the media. Since Backwoods has a great relationship with its consumers it was important that the footprint was a large, visually appealing activation space with memorable and shareable elements. As a nod to the local culture, we created the Backwoods Super Store inspired by the Slauson Swap Meet!

The space featured a sign tower and a low rider with a flower installation on its left side which became the backdrop for many media outlets that were conducting interviews with musical artists. Our creative team developed many brand elements and branded merchandise for the space. The merchandise included branded T-shirts, branded snapback hats, branded sweat suits, branded letterman jackets, and branded hoodies all in multiple colors. The merchandise was displayed as retail items in a store but was distributed as swag, which was a prized "get". The Backwoods Superstore was the highlight of the artist compound.

We positioned Backwoods as a lifestyle brand that connected with its consumers by infusing recognizable cultural elements in the footprint design. The goal of this project was to engage visitors, demonstrate how Backwoods is engrained into the culture, and highlight the Brand’s lifestyle components.
