Mastercard’s Wildlife Impact Card helps consumers with a passion for nature to protect wildlife habitats of Critically Endangered species. The expiration date and language printed on each card highlight the urgency for action, noting that many Critically Endangered species may become extinct before the card expires. Our objective is to drive awareness of this important cause while supporting our charity partner, Conservation International (CI). CI protects and restores wildlife habitats around the world, including priority areas equal to 40 million hectares of landscapes and 4.5 square kilometers of seascapes by 2030. In the past year, we have launched Wildlife Impact Card with DSK Bank (DSK) and Banco de Costa Rica (BCR).
DSK is a leading bank in Eastern Europe looking to drive tangible impact and further their sustainability goals, which is why they launched a debit Wildlife Impact Card. To encourage consumers to take action, they donate $1 to Conservation International for every card issued. DSK also created a multi-channel, employee and consumer-facing campaign that reached 4 million people to build awareness. Since launch, they have seen considerable overall debit growth, acquisition, and usage with a 20% lift in transaction volume and 2x more cards issued than estimated. They have also received 2 green industry awards for the program.
BCR is an influential, government-owned bank with a robust ESG strategy, operating in a country with one of the highest concentrations of biodiversity on the planet. They launched a Wildlife Impact Card featuring a locally relevant and critically endangered species, the Hawksbill Turtle. The card is made of recycled materials. On top of Mastercard’s core debit benefits, cardholders get exclusive access to conservation-led experiences through a co-branded priceless.com site. They can also donate directly to CI through Mastercard’s donation widget. Soon, they will be able to track the carbon footprint of their purchases using our Carbon Calculator.
We hope to build on this positive momentum and expand Wildlife Impact Card with customers around the globe to protect wildlife habitats.
