The website for the South Jersey Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution serves as a valuable resource for members, educators, and the community, offering links to additional resources, news, and happenings related to the organization and historical places and events related to the founding of our nation. Founded in 1923, the chapter covers five counties of New Jersey. It is part of the Sons of the American Revolution, a Congressionally chartered organization established in 1889, dedicated to preserving American history and promoting education for future generations. The website was redesigned to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the chapter, which began in 1923.
The typefaces selected for the website's design are particularly noteworthy, as they incorporate fonts that were in use in America when the country was founded. The body copy is strongly based on a typeface released by William Caslon in 1722; Caslon's type was the favorite font of Benjamin Franklin for his printing press. The American Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were set in Caslon. The headers use the modern version of IM Fell English SC, a typeface rooted in the 17th century.
The website's color scheme was also chosen based on the colors used by the founding fathers in the original flag. Together, these design elements create a visual connection to the historical period the organization commemorates, providing a blend of historical reverence and modern accessibility.
