A Calculated Risk: A.L.M. Holding Company tells the story of Mathy Construction Company, which was founded in 1945 in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The company’s ethos was built on the idea of hard work, commitment and the pursuit of excellence.
Mathy initially specialized in laying hot mix asphalt, but the company would gradually expand into other specialty areas of construction.

A devastating warehouse fire early in Mathy’s history destroyed all of its construction equipment, but that was not enough to deter founder Amie L. Mathy. His tenacity and perseverance in the face of adversity would not allow him to quit and would inspire those who worked for him.

As Mathy successfully progressed, the company built up its reputation to become a nationally-
recognized leader in construction.

While Amie continued to work into his 80s, his son Chuck, who had been working for the company since 1958, was now running the operations. Like his father, Chuck successfully served the company well into his twilight years when his sons Steve and Scott were handed the reins. The brothers carried on the traditions of their father and grandfather, learning how things were done with a hands-on approach.

In 2005, Mathy’s leadership made the decision to reorganize and rename the business A.L.M. Holding Company to reflect its growth and aspirations.

Today, A.L.M. Holding Company remains true to the vision and values Amie L. Mathy originally established as it looks to the next generation of leaders and builders who will take the company into the future.
