The Iron Island series takes place on an oil platform in the middle of the ocean that has a very specific soundscape on its metal structure. For the series' promotional campaign, the PromoGlobo team developed a trailer using binaural immersive audio to take the audience into the middle of the scenes and perceive the sound space. The trailer seeks to translate the climate of tension and expectation, reinforcing the main assets of the plot: action, adventure and passion. The intensity of the plot is also represented with the sound of fire, helicopter, shots, and explosions driving the viewer to look at the astonishing images and wonder what it would be like to be inside the action on this platform in the middle of the sea.
To highlight the main conflicts of the series, the narrative structure of the trailer use the contrasts: water and fire; hot and cold; passion and hate – contradictions present in the personalities of the characters themselves, who are always living on the edge.
The Binaural Trailer was released on Globo's social networks and the public was invited to live a sensorial experience with the headphones both on the smartphone and on the desktop.
It was the first promo campaign with the use of binaural immersive audio in Brazil and it had more than 1 million views on Youtube and was shared on several social networks, reaching the initial goal of conquering the young-adult audience on social networks.
