Amidst Earth's mounting energy crisis, especially pronounced in California, households are turning to solar roof panels to slash electricity bills and recycle energy. This trend sparks an inquiry: what's the best way to cut energy costs and maximize solar power?
In this scenario, envisioning myself in a pioneering Martian colony, survival hinges on efficient resource management. Solar panels and backup batteries power our homes, vital for survival in this harsh environment. During the day, solar panels fuel our homes and charge batteries, but at night or during dust storms, we rely solely on battery power.
Daily life includes navigating Martian terrain in battery-powered rovers for exploration and agriculture. However, a concern arises: rover batteries often outlast home backups, risking depletion overnight.
To solve this, I developed a UX project for touchscreen interfaces. It allows residents to allocate battery storage for rover charging at night, tailored to users' schedules.
After user feedback and testing, the concept of activity-based energy systems emerged. By aligning energy management with users' tasks, it simplifies operations and ensures power goes where needed. This user-centric design enhances energy management and user experience.
Looking ahead, optimizing energy allocation can tackle Earth's energy crisis. Through innovative design, we can pave the way for a sustainable energy future.
