The misuse of air conditioning contributes to global warming & the urban heat island effect, we want to design a sculptural energy-free cooling module with high commercial value to reduce people's dependence on air-conditioning. lt becomes a design intervention to reverse the trend of global warming.
The project is centred around a porous silica-ceramic material, inspired by the traditional energy-free refrigerated tanks of the African zeer jar, utilising the properties of the material and the physical principle of evaporation of water to carry away heat. Focusing on how to rationalise the introduction of water and wind into this sustainable energy-free cooling system, and taking into account the convenience and flexibility of the project's roll-out, the design is as modular as possible, based on a polygonal tessellation model. A more timeless product aesthetic was also explored.
Use principles of water evaporation and plant transpiration to carry away heat, we have designed a modular product that is primarily used in building facades and retail shop decorations, The result is an infinite number of artistic combinations created with a minimum number of moules. The internal structure of the product mainly consists of pots, absorbent cotton, perforated water tubes, connector. Applied to the decoration of supermarkets, retail shops or lower residential homes, the creative introduction of vertical farming reduces greenhouse gas emissions while plants absorb greenhouse gases and transpiration cools. It is worth mentioning that the product is applied in the scenario of building air-conditioning unit, which can directly convert the hot air exhaled from the air-conditioning unit into cold air, reducing the harm brought by the use of air-conditioning to global warming.
