Float4 delivered an accessible series of captivating interactive media exhibits for View Boston, the newly opened observatory located atop the iconic Prudential Tower in Boston, Massachusetts. The 59,000 square-foot experience offers locals and visitors alike 360-degree breathtaking views of the city skyline, while each multimedia installation takes them on a unique and personalized journey through the city's rich history and vibrant culture.
In collaboration with Jack Rouse Associates (JRA) & Electrosonic, Float4 designed, produced, and delivered eight multimedia exhibits, each serving as a unique storytelling tool. The exhibits were complemented by the development of a data-driven microsite, a tailored content management system, an intuitive audio guide, as well as three additional multimedia installations at the entrance of the observatory.
Highlights of the experience include the Virtual Viewers, nine 360-degree mobile displays that allow guests to discover Boston’s neighborhoods through an interactive digitally augmented panorama of the city. Here visitors can enjoy the unique experience of locating landmarks in real life through the expansive windows of the observatory and then instantly learning more about them through the interactive display.
The Explore Boston exhibit is equally notable, featuring 14 towering LED touchscreens whose content invites visitors to learn about the city's diverse history by exploring numerous themes (Architecture, Education, Gastronomy and more) through over 350 landmarks and points of interest.
A standout innovation is the data-driven ViewPrint microsite, which connects the entire experience. As visitors scan their tickets at each interactive exhibit to save landmarks, the Finale Kiosks then utilize a custom recommendation algorithm to create a fully personalized itinerary that offers each guest a guide to continue their journey throughout the city.
Float4 also prioritized accessibility and inclusivity, adhering to WCAG AA standards, offering text-to-speech functionality, adjustable menus and translating all content into nine languages. The exhibits were crafted to ensure that everyone, from first-time visitors to locals, can engage with and discover new aspects of Boston.
Through meticulous design and innovative technology, Float4 has transformed View Boston into an experience that transcends the conventional observation deck, offering guests a deeply personalized and unforgettable journey.
