Since 2020, BenQ Designer Monitor has been committed to providing a platform for emerging designers to showcase their work and exchange ideas. In 2023, BenQ, in collaboration with international brands such as Pantone, organized a design competition and hosted an exhibition of the winners’ and experts’ works. The goal was to establish an ecosystem that connects designers, artists, and tech professionals, providing a stage for creators to display their talents while promoting industry collaboration and exchange.
The 2023 competition, themed Myriad Visions of Thousand Cities, explored the diversity of urban cultures, encouraging creators to adopt a broader perspective in understanding and presenting local cultures. This event not only deepened our understanding of native cultures but also invited emerging designers and judges from Japan and Korea, further enhancing the international level of the competition.
The visual concept for this year’s competition drew inspiration from the ever-changing nature of a kaleidoscope, combining traditional and modern architecture, urban culture, and local customs to create a rich and diverse visual effect, presenting endless variations and imagination like a kaleidoscope. The design of the winning works collection continued this concept, using chapter and work sequencing to offer a “kaleidoscope on paper” experience, allowing viewers to enjoy the same sense of wonder as they flip through the pages. Notably, we created a physical kaleidoscope of the winning works as both a commemorative piece and interactive experience, allowing viewers to engage with its dynamic visuals and endless imagination.
The competition covered 332 schools, receiving a total of 2,295 entries, and the topic garnered over 15 million online impressions. During the 9-day exhibition, 6,000 people made online reservations to view the showcase, and around 160 attended the opening ceremony. The total online exposure of the exhibition reached 9.5 million impressions.
As Chinese design continues to rise, the integration of technology and culture becomes increasingly important. BenQ empowers designers with technological innovation, promoting both the preservation and innovation of culture. Looking ahead, we aim to continue leading this trend, supporting global designers, and enhancing the influence of Chinese design on the international stage.
