Homecoming is one of the most anticipated annual events for any college. As the nation’s 5th oldest and Memphis, Tennessee’s only Historically Black College and University (HBCU), LeMoyne-Owen College (LOC) aimed to bring high-energy visuals to their Homecoming 2024 campaign. We collaborated with the client to poll current LOC students, allowing them to choose the Homecoming theme. Titled “Not Like Us” in reference to Kendrick Lamar’s popular hit, the campaign was centered around the reveal of the college’s new mascot, Walker the Magician, during the homecoming basketball game, which was the focal point of the week-long celebrations. Drawing inspiration from one of the song’s lyrics, the campaign tagline, “Are you LOC’d in?” creatively integrated the college’s initials, inviting students, alumni, and community members to engage with the festivities.

Our design team crafted a dynamic visual identity that merged traditional school colors with fresh, contemporary elements. We developed a series of promotional assets, including event flyers, social media graphics, and digital banners, all featuring bold typography and energetic layouts to resonate with the college’s diverse audience. The graphics were strategically designed to build momentum in the weeks leading up to the event, fostering excitement across the campus and the broader community. Our team produced dynamic mascot teaser and promotional videos to generate excitement around Homecoming and introduce the new mascot.

The homecoming basketball game serves as the grand finale of the campaign, featuring the mascot reveal designed to amplify school pride and bring the campus together in celebration.So far, the designs have been praised by students and social media followers for their vibrant energy and modern appeal, creating a lasting impression on the college community and ensuring that the “Not Like Us” campaign is a standout in the college’s homecoming history.
