In 2024, the Hualien Starry Night Concert celebrated its fifth edition, symbolizing the purity and resilience of this land. After the 403 Hualien earthquake, the city underwent significant rebuilding and revival, and the concert served as a gathering beneath the stars where people could experience the healing embrace of nature and the restorative power of art. The event was held across Hualien’s northern, central, and southern districts, blending music, eco-friendly art, and local culture to promote regional tourism. It encouraged visitors not only to linger in the urban center but also to explore the diverse landscapes of the mountains, sea, and forests.
[Recycled Ocean Waste as Art]
In 2024, the event notably embraced sustainability by partnering with professional recycling teams to transform ocean waste into art installations. These “star” installations, made from recycled glass and marine debris, showcased the regenerative value of discarded materials through clever design, creating a synergy between art and environmental stewardship. Informative panels and tour guides were on hand to communicate the importance of marine conservation to visitors.
[Boosting the Local Economy]
Beyond eco-friendly art, each venue incorporated local cultural elements to create immersive natural experiences. At the Fuli venue, activities like "Bamboo SPA" and a bamboo forest trail allowed visitors to experience the tranquility and freshness of the mountains. At Qixingtan, the "Qixi Stone Stacking" activity symbolized Hualien’s resilience and revival after the earthquake, using the act of stacking stones to convey strength and unity. Meanwhile, the Danongdafu venue offered a "Forest Handicraft" experience that combined natural surroundings with craft-making, inviting guests to directly engage with and appreciate the vitality of the forest.
