NASA ScienceCasts: Monitoring Microbes for Astronaut Health

The NASA ScienceCasts team produced a series of episodes covering Space Station Science 101 topics. The Space Station 101 episode on Monitoring Microbes for Astronaut Health discusses the protection of astronauts on the International Space Station from harmful pathogens and how that are of study is leading to groundbreaking advancements in microbiology.

Our team combined footage from the International Space Station with original 2D and 3D animations to highlight the station's use of HEPA filters and advanced water processing systems, the monitoring of microbial activity on station, and the use of a portable DNA amplifier and compact DNA sequencer to more quickly and efficiently identify microbes on station.
