For NBCUniversal’s 2024 Upfront presentation at Radio City Music Hall, we sought to showcase the strength of reality programming across our portfolio. And what better way to get the audience’s attention than by using the reality series taking the world by storm?
The Traitors is a runaway hit for Peacock, bringing in a diverse group of reality television stars to a Scottish castle for a mysterious game of deception. So to celebrate the breadth of our reality properties, we took the tone, the music, the setting, and – of course – the host of the zeitgeist-defining show and applied them to the broader “NBCUniversal reality kingdom.” Welcome to The Traitors of NBCU.
Alan Cumming – in his finest attire, in a space decorated to match the iconic castle – assumes his Traitors character, welcoming viewers with the series’ signature brand of campy noir. He asks us to embrace our affection for a genre often considered a guilty pleasure: the unscripted drama fans crave, or the thrill of competition. But what he really wants to know is: who can be truly “traitorous”?
We then recreate the interview process known to Traitors viewers – but this time with star talent from across NBC, Bravo, E!, USA, Telemundo, and Peacock. When answering Alan’s questions, talent responses nod towards their show or persona, further underlining why they are officially “reality TV famous.” The appearances are stacked: from Housewives to Howie Mandel to Paris Hilton, each appearance shows viewers just how far our reach goes. Alan closes with a toast to fans, knowing no matter how much drama we give them – they’ll always want more.
