The Dancing Mind is an interactive VR experience that uses movement to strengthen the connection between mind and body, inspired by dance movement therapy (DMT). While movement is essential for this connection, it is often overlooked by current meditative and therapeutic technologies. To address this, we collaborated with dancers and dance/movement therapists to create a VR environment where participants can move freely, guided by audio and visual instructions. The experience incorporates key DMT techniques, such as mirroring and group dancing, to explore new possibilities in VR therapy.

Built in Unity and Oculus 3, the experience uses hand-tracking and multiplayer networking to create a social and immersive environment to practice movement meditation wherever they are. The experience has two parts:

1. Solo Meditation: A 3-minute session helps participants get comfortable with breathing and moving in VR. Breathing is tracked using the device's microphone, and the environment changes based on their breath.

2. Multiplayer Session: Up to five participants join a shared space to complete a group therapeutic movement session.

This project demonstrates how VR can bring the benefits of dance movement therapy to a wider audience in an engaging and interactive way.
