Hong Kong WinterFest, hosted by the Hong Kong Tourism Board since 2002, turned West Kowloon Cultural District into a public festive haven this year from 22 November 2024 to 1 January 2025. We aim to establish this event as Hong Kong’s top holiday event, rekindling locals’ passion for Victoria Harbour and offering inclusive, innovative experiences that captivate all. Against a backdrop of competing attractions, we tackled the challenge of drawing crowds with the “3-I Strategy” of Instagrammable Moments, Innovative Experience, and Inclusivity.
We executed with precision, setting up a 20-meter-tall Christmas tree as the city’s tallest outdoors Christmas tree framed by Victoria Harbour, alongside an LED Light Tunnel and 3D Light Projections. The Postmas Campaign, a groundbreaking collaboration featured 70 mailboxes with free postcards doubling as filters, encouraging visitors to share Christmas Town’s magic globally. Synced to a custom Christmas medley, the seasonal Winter Harbourfront Pyrotechnics Displays fueled excitement while partnership with influencers truly igniting global excitement for Hong Kong WinterFest.
To meet experiential tourism demands, we added innovative tech like animated light projections and festive aroma to create an immersive experience. Inclusivity was crucial, such as pet-friendly spaces, all-ages activities, and NGO group visits created a welcoming vibe for families, friends, and communities.
The public response was enthusiastic with over 11 million social media reaches and 14 million UGC views showcased Hong Kong WinterFest’s reach, supported by 380 media mentions, including Vogue’s praise as “The Best Places to Spend Christmas Aboard”. Visitor numbers jumped 40% from last year, with 98% of tourists hailing Hong Kong as Asia’s event hub and 97% planning return trips. Sentiment scores soared with 100% felt the festive uplift and romantic warmth, with the tree and ambiance earning top marks.
Hong Kong WinterFest redefined public events by making Victoria Harbour a shared stage for joy and connection. Through strategic creativity and flawless execution, we delivered a free, accessible celebration that not only dazzled locals and visitors but also cemented Hong Kong’s reputation as a global festive leader, proof that a public event can be both grand and heartfelt.
