Organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board, 2025 Hong Kong New Year Countdown Celebrations transformed Victoria Harbour into a dazzling spectacle, embodying the vibrant spirit of the city. Committed to solidifying its status as the "Event Capital of Asia," Hong Kong hosted this world-class event using a remarkable "3-M Strategy" of Multiculturalism, Multimedia & Effects, and Multi-Perspectives, to deepen audience engagement and ensure the Celebrations remained fresh and exciting.
Hong Kong Tourism Board proudly presented a breathtaking 12-minute fireworks display, the largest in Hong Kong, spanning 1,300 meters. A giant countdown clock at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, alongside vibrant pre-show festivities broadcast on television, brought together over 400,000 spectators in a bid farewell to the old year and an warm welcome to the new.
Integrating the Chinese five elements (WuXing) into the fireworks artistry created a culturally rich experience. Live performances by popular bands MIRROR and COLLAR, alongside Canadian duo Crash Adams, infused the festivities with vibrant energy, showcasing Hong Kong's multicultural spirit. Four sets of "Shooting Stars" fireworks emerged from three iconic buildings also amplifying the festive atmosphere.
The Celebrations blended innovation with tradition, showcasing stunning fireworks synchronised with festive music. Themed “The Symphony of Happiness,” featuring special effects to symbolise blessings for the year ahead. Groundbreaking effects like "The Propitious Clouds" with rainbow-colored smoke and "Blooming Blossoms" with multi-layered displays captivated audiences.
With eight strategically placed vantage points, the Celebrations became the most engaging year-end event. Each location along Victoria Harbour was equipped with sound systems, ensuring spectacular views. The event reached an estimated 39 million TV viewers, achieved 79 million social media reaches, and garnered coverage from over 250 local media outlets.
The impact on tourism was significant, with 97% of tourists perceiving Hong Kong as the “Event Capital of Asia,” and 92% citing the event as a key reason to visit. Event satisfaction scores were remarkable, with 99% rating the overall ambience, 95% for the scale of the fireworks, and 94% for overall attractiveness. This event exemplified Hong Kong's dynamic spirit and commitment to world-class celebrations.
